There are REAL People out there, hurting and in need of prayer! It doesn't cost anything but time and heart to pray for someone, and a multitude of people doesn't make a prayer more powerful.
Facebook featured christianprayercenter.com aka Strongest Prayer Requests. However, what they don't reveal up front is that in order for your request to be posted aka prayed for... YOU MUST MAKE A MANDATORY "DONATION" TO THEM!
Prayer is powerful. Prayer is an awesome tool, given by God, into the hearts of His children to overcome the enemy and gain victory through Jesus Christ the Savior, and IT DOESN'T REQUIRE PAYMENT AS IF IT WERE A RETAIL TRANSACTION.

I saw this FB posting, and it just made me so mad! What does our Lord REALLY think of scams like that? Did Jesus EVER request PAYMENT from those He gave to?
People, time is short and the needs of people are so great, Christians DO NOT have time for such games!
Prayer is not a commodity! GOD is not a commodity to be traded, bought or sold. The GOSPEL is not a commodity to be traded, bought or sold. Jesus CLEARLY told His disciples (are we His disciples? then he says this to us today as well) : FREELY YOU HAVE RECEIVED, FREELY GIVE! Matthew 10: 8
Shame, shame and shame on those who perpetuate such nonsense!

Week One Insights
Gen 4 - Before the established practice of tithing as seen by Abraham giving a tenth to Melchizedek, we see Cain and Abel bringing an offering to the Lord. It doesn't say "how much", just that Abel brought the FIRST FRUITS or firstborn - the first and best he had to offer and God accepted it as an offering. Cain brought an offering too. It doesn't specify, but it obviously wasn't the FIRST, or God would have accepted it. Or possibly, it wasn't with the RIGHT HEART? Something to think about in our own lives.
Verse 7, God gives Cain excellent advice, but it's also a DIRECTIVE for a great life. He tells him that sin is crouching at the door of his heart. God not only warns Cain of danger, but He tells him what to do about it! God tells Cain to "master" it. Obedience would have resulted in good things occurring in Cains life. This is great advice for us, too. Born again or seeking to know Jesus the Lord - sin continues to attempt to trip us up. We can't avoid it, but we can "master" it through Christ! God doesn't withhold the needed knowledge but tells us exactly HOW to master sin. SUBMIT to God, RESIST the devil, MASTER sin in our own lives!
Job has so much to offer I could spend YEARS on it! Keep these things in mind as you read and perhaps you'll find yourself with a new perspective that will be useful to you.
Job did not know that God had allowed satan access to his life. He did not understand what was happening but he stuck with what he did know, that God is FOR HIM and not against him!
Jesus paid the price of sin for us, so when we mess up, confession and repentance result in forgiveness, not punishment from God.
Chastening of the Lord is like disciplining a child - loving encouragement and instruction to do the right things that will bring blessing and joy to our lives.

ENCOURAGEMENT
Are you keeping up on the reading? 3-4 chapters can seem a bit daunting if you're not already in the habit of reading the Bible daily, but once you get started, it's such interesting reading you won't want to put it down!
Reading this way also lets you get more of a "feel" for what's going on, and often, answers the "why" its going on as well.
In the Bible study course we designed, called How to Read and Study the Bible, (quite original title I know) we encourage that you ASK QUESTIONS while reading, rather than passively taking in the words strung together into sentences. And remember - the people are/were as real, passionate, human and feeling as you and I are! Emotions were at work in them, too. Thirdly, don't assume you know the meaning of every word. If it seems odd or out of place, definitions and word use change over time. Grab a dictionary, use a concordance if you have one and get deeper understanding!
Above all - DON'T GIVE UP - if you get a little behind or don't understand something or even if you feel a bit bored at times! The first - even the second, third or fourth time through Gods word can be overwhelming! Stick with it and IT WILL STICK WITH YOU! This living, powerful word of God will amaze you when you least expect it!
